A Smooth Ride
子供のころ、冬になると私はそりをするのが大好きだったわ。 冷たい風が顔に吹きつけながら雪の丘をすべるのはとっても楽しいでしょ。
でも私は今まで夏にそりをしたことはなかったわ。 でもどうやって？ だって雪なんてないじゃない。 だから日本の９月の暖かい日にそりに行かないって訪ねられた時は、私はちょっと混乱したわ。
本当に？ だってそれはまだ夏の間だったのよ！
うーん・・・。 私はどうなるのかわからないけど行ってみようって思ったわ。
私たちが愛媛県の山の中にある公園に着いてみると、私は一緒に来た人たちが冗談を言ってたのではないことを知ったわ。 でもそれはいつも私がやってたような雪の上をそりするんじゃなくって、私たちは草の上をすべるのだったの！ とってもなめらかによく刈り込まれてスムースにすべれる草の坂があったわ。
私たちはいくつかの赤いプラスティックのそりを借りたの。 そして丘の上まで登ったわ。 レッツ・ゴー！ 最初そりはゆっくりと動いたわ。 でもすぐに速くなったの。
すごい！！ サイコー！！
でも私たちはちょっと速すぎて、自分でコントロールできないと感じたわ。 どうしよう！ これって自分で止めれるの？？
As a kid, I loved to go sledding in the winter. What a rush to fly down the snowy hill, the cold wind blowing in my face.
But I had never been sledding in the summer. How could I? There was no snow. So when I was asked to go sledding on a warm September day in Japan, I was a little confused.
Really? But it was the middle of the summer!
Hmmm… I decided to go along with it, not really sure what would happen.
When we arrived at the park in the mountains of Ehime Prefecture, I saw that my companions weren’t joking around. But instead of sledding on snow, as I had always done, we would be sledding on grass! Sleek green slopes stood before us, manicured perfectly for a smooth ride.
We rented some red plastic sleds and climbed to the top of the hill. Off we went! The ride started slowly at first, but the sleds quickly picked up speed.
Woo hoo!! What a rush!!
But we were going so fast, that I felt like the sled was out of control. Oh, no! Would I be able to stop??
